The Rhinoceros

I prefer Burgkmair's woodcut over Dürer's. I feel as though Burgkmair's woodcut is stronger than Dürer's, due to his successful use of contrast and various linework. Such as the crosshatching and hatching on the rhinoceros' body, giving a more detailed depiction of the rhino in comparison to Dürer's. Dürer's looks a bit washed out, with very little contrast. There is attention to detail such as the scales on its body, but it doesn't read as strongly to me as Burgkmair's. Burgkmair's is also cleaner, and personally pleasing to the eye.

I found François Legaut's depiction of the rhinoceros to be the most amusing. The story behind it is funny and it was made in a lighthearted manner, rather than "this is a concrete example of what the rhinoceros looks like". He basically based these various illustrations of the rhinoceros on other artist's depiction of it, and combined it all in one piece. Which I found rather interesting and it was a different approach compared to the others. One can look at these rhinos all next to each other and compare and contrast them, all having different elements that make them unique.
